Centre for Special Programmes
The center operates as an institute focused on enhancing skills and competencies through its program offerings. This includes a special program for special needs students, the Professional Certificate in Cruise Service and Operations for aspiring cruise industry professionals, and the Recognition Prior experiential learning program for experienced individuals seeking formal recognition of their skills.
The Centre for Special Programmes offers the following programmes:
1. LAPT Skills Proficiency Certificate (for Special Needs)
Programme Duration: 6 months (4 terms)
A Skills Proficiency Certificate is offered for special needs children as a 6-month programme, after which students can choose which pathway they are keen on, such as business, IT, or hospitality programmes. Special needs education has a broad scope. It is not only concerned with children with learning disabilities, physical impairments, disabilities, and handicaps. It is also concerned with gifted, talented, and marginalised children. Special Needs Vocational Education at KNOWSKILLS TVET COLLEGE is focused on slow learners and autism children who should be given the opportunity to further their studies through vocational education.
2. LAPT Professional Certificate in Cruise Service and Operations
Programme Duration: 1 Year – 3 Months full-time training, 9 Months Industrial Practice
The cruise programme is much favoured as the students are trained for 3 months with 9 months of on-the-job training in 4 or 5-star hotels, after which they are absorbed into cruise liners with a starting salary of US1500 to US2000. The Professional Certificate in Cruise Service and Operations encompasses a wholesome and holistic approach to training students to be prepared to be employed on cruise liners, both local and international. Students will undergo training for 3 months and 9 months of on-the-job training under 4 or 5-star hotels. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will then be employed as full-time staff on any reputable cruise line worldwide.
3. RPEL LAPT Vocational Certificate
Programme Duration: 3 Months (student will be assessed practically)
Recognition Prior Experiential Learning is best suited for students with 2 years of industry experience but has no qualification. Recognition Prior experiential learning is best suited for professionals with years of experience but lacking the required qualifications. The duration of the programme is 3 months for both the certificate and diploma, with 2 and 3 years of experience, respectively.
4. RPEL LaXenia Vocational Diploma
Programme Duration: 3 Months ( Students will be assessed theoretically and practically based on their work experience.)
Recognition Prior Experiential Learning is best suited for students with 3 years of industry experience but has no qualification. Recognition Prior experiential learning is best suited for professionals with years of experience but lacking the required qualifications. The duration of the programme is 3 months for both the certificate and diploma, with 2 and 3 years of experience, respectively.
