A "business" is an organisation or entity that conducts commercial, industrial, or professional activities. A business's main objective is to engage in some sort of economic activity, such as the creation of commodities or services. The only thing that counts when defining a business is whether or not the organisation seeks to profit from the activities it undertakes. Enterprises can be for-profit legal enterprises or nonprofit groups that promote social causes or serve humanitarian purposes. Businesses occur in a variety of sizes and styles, ranging from modest sole proprietorship to enormous multinational companies. While businesses differ in many ways, they all have several common characteristics, such as economic motive, production or sale of goods and services, profit earning, customer satisfaction, continuous activity, legal framework, risks, and uncertainties.

Businesses can vary on many different levels but are typically divided into four principal categories. Here are the most common types of businesses, such as

  • Service

The first type of business refers to situations where the seller offers intangible goods, such as assistance, advice, or labour, to customers and/or other businesses.

  • Manufacturing

In manufacturing, the producer uses raw materials to create a product. This product is then sold to the customer, either directly or through a third party.

  • Retail

Also known as merchandising or a ‘buy and sell’ business, this type involves middlemen who purchase goods from producers. They then sell them at a retail price to end consumers.

  • Hybrid

As the name suggests, hybrid businesses are a combination of at least two other types.

Accounting is a term that describes the process of consolidating financial information to make it clear and understandable for all stakeholders and shareholders. The main goal of accounting is to record and report a company's financial transactions, financial performance, and cash flows.

Accounting is the way a business keeps track of its operations. Accountants analyse the business finances so the owner can make better decisions. This information is organised into reports that show the financial health of a business. Accounting helps business owners meet their compliance obligations.
